South Australia’s Perks Private Wealth has strengthened its investment capabilities by securing the expertise and resources of Australia’s leading institutional investment consultant Frontier Advisors in a major coup for its clients.
The new relationship – the first of its type with a wealth advisory firm for Frontier globally – allows Perks Private Wealth to draw upon Frontier’s ‘institutional grade’ investment research and deep knowledge of global markets and key asset classes, further enhancing Perks sophisticated bespoke investment advice to clients.
Frontier Advisors has been independently ranked as Australia’s leading asset consulting business* and advises institutional clients with over $A600 billion in funds under advice, including superannuation funds, insurers, universities and governments.
Perks Private Wealth Director Simon Wotherspoon says having access to Frontiers’ resources means their clients can benefit from global research and market insights traditionally reserved for institutional investors, delivered with a local and personalised touch.
“This is the first time Frontier Advisors has partnered with a private wealth firm globally and is a huge endorsement for Perks Private Wealth, as a leader in the profession,” he said.
“The significant capabilities of Australia’s leading investment consultant Frontier and the knowledge and experience gained over their almost three decades advising Australia’s largest investors are now available to our clients through this new association.
“This relationship provides Perks Private Wealth with a point-of-difference among our competitors and underlines our commitment to innovation within our experienced wealth advisory division which has been supporting South Australians for 23 years and has $1.2 billion in funds under management.
“It also complements the expertise of over 200 staff of the wider Perks firm, our dedicated Perks Private Wealth research team and our sophisticated Perks Private Wealth Investment Committee chaired by respected finance executive Christo Hall.”
Christo’s experience includes helping to oversee the $35 billion Asian Fundamental Equities team at US investment giant BlackRock, and more recently he was Chief Investment Officer of Australian investment manager Ellerston Capital. He presently holds non-executive director positions at Funds SA and AMP Superannuation Limited.
Frontier will also provide independent oversight of Perks’ robust governance structure, ensuring industry leading practice, and Perks advisers will have access to Frontier’s technology platform, research and market insights, to further enhance personalised advice to clients.
Frontier is purely an independent investment advice and technology business and do not offer their own investment products. They will provide advice to the Perks Private Wealth Investment Committee, with Perks retaining full control of their decision making. Perks is privately owned and self-licensed.
“We have a strong stable of institutional clients in South Australia and with our local staff presence we are proud to be part of the Adelaide business community,” Frontier Advisors CEO Andrew Polson said.
“This relationship with Perks makes that connection even stronger. We think this model brings Perks the best of bespoke advice and separate execution and allows Perks to retain control of its own decisions, which is a model we have not seen elsewhere in the market.”
Head of Perks Private Wealth, Simon Wotherspoon catches up with Frontier Advisors CEO, Andrew Polson to chat about the new collaboration and the benefits to Perks clients.
Andrew is the Chief Executive Officer at Frontier Advisors, where he plays a pivotal role in overseeing the company’s holistic operations, strategic planning, financial performance, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
Before joining Frontier, Andrew held the position of General Manager for Wealth Management within the financial services conglomerate, MyState Limited. Preceding this role, he served as the Global Head of Investment Management and Implementation at ANZ Global Wealth’s Chief Investment Office. His extensive career also includes various senior roles in Wealth Management at both the ANZ Group and IOOF. Andrew embarked on his professional journey at NAB in Business Banking and later transitioned to Group Strategy.
Andrew’s academic background includes a Master of Marketing Management from Melbourne Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from La Trobe University.
Established in 1994 Frontier advises institutional investors with over $600 billion in funds under management. Frontier has been independently ranked as Australia’s leading asset consulting business via the annual Peter Lee Associates investment management survey of Australian asset owners. In 2023, Frontier was ranked first overall and first in nine of 14 categories assessed. Frontier has staff on the ground in Adelaide.
Perks is one of South Australia’s largest privately-owned accounting and wealth advisory firms. Perks Private Wealth was established within the Perks business in 2000 and has grown to manage $1.2bn of private client funds today. As an early pioneer in boutique wealth management it has always operated under its own Australian Financial Services License (AFSL), and as a self-licensed private wealth firm, they are not owned or influenced by any bank or institution. Their strategic direction is led and managed by the Directors working within their firm and their fee-for-service model focusses on tailored client-centric advice.
