James McGuffog is a Director within the Perks Chartered Accounting Team. With over 16 years’ experience in corporate finance and accounting advisory, James is a client-centric accounting professional whose specialisation areas include tax planning, asset protection, management information reporting, process development, P&L improvement and retirement and succession planning.
After starting his career in practice as a Graduate Accountant, James joined Perks in 2008 and has demonstrated his natural leadership ability in various cross-functional teams and projects. Additionally, his technical expertise and proactive approach to client service saw James ascend to the rank of Associate Director in 2022 and later Director in 2024.
In his capacity as Director, James is a trusted partner to business owners and executives, helping them gain significant results in accelerating their financial performance. James’ expertise is sought after by business owners to improve their profitability and achieve margin expansion through providing structured tax solutions and streamlining their existing financial reporting processes. He has also worked closely with client leadership and Board teams to help them achieve key financial objectives and sustainable business growth.
Over the course of his career, James has worked with private enterprises of varying sizes, spanning many different industries, including construction, wine, healthcare, transport, engineering, and hospitality. In particular, he brings a seasoned understanding of the unique nuances and considerations of family-owned and operated businesses.
Leveraging his broad network of client relationships and technical knowledge, James is dedicated to helping his clients unlock the next phase of their business’ growth through differentiated tax planning approaches and optimised financial infrastructures, processes and systems that facilitate scale-up while maintaining cost discipline.
James holds a Master of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing and Management) from the University of Adelaide and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2010.
